On May 25, 2024, in Window Rock, Arizona, at the heart of the (Dinétah) Navajo Nation, we participated in a vibrant celebration honoring community empowerment through skateboarding. This historic event, orchestrated by Di’Orr Greenwood in collaboration with Tribal Leaders of the Navajo Nation, Nike SB, Cowtown Skateboards, and Cowtown S.K.A.T.E., demonstrated a remarkable partnership that brought together skateboarding and artistry.
During the event, Cowtown S.K.A.T.E. donated a mobile S.K.A.T.E. Spot to the Fort Defiance Chapter House. This initiative attracted leaders, athletes, Elders, and Presidents to emphasize cultural unity and shared experiences. The following weekend, the S.K.A.T.E. Spot was used for a skateboard competition, illustrating its impact as a community gathering point.
The Vitology Foundation, Williams Works, Division of Social Services, along with private donors, presented the Window Rock High School graduating class of 2024 with the new Di’Orr Greenwood & Nike SB Pro Blazer Mid collaboration as a commemorative gift, highlighting the significance of honoring heritage and resilience.
Di’Orr presented her Nike SB collection, and Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren reflected on the dedication of skateboarders to achieving their goals, transcending the sport itself. Vice President Richelle Montoya emphasized the event's impact on indigenous youth, artists, and the local economy, underscoring skateboarding's role in community development.
The event supported local artists and vendors free of charge, with Cowtown Skateboards donating all shoe proceeds, totaling $23,000, to Indigihub. The celebration stimulated approximately $60,000 into the Dinétah economy.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all supporters who share our mission of using skateboarding to foster youth development, economic growth, and community longevity.
